FastFitness was created by two sisters, Kim Lockwood (on left) and Gina Miller (on right). Kim, a licensed OTA, Occupational Therapist Assistant was in a serious car accident in 2003. Kim sustained multiple injuries which included a fractured vertebra in her neck causing Kim to be out of work for a two year rehabilitation. After undergoing four separate surgeries Kim was told she would not be able to return to her career of OTA. Not being someone who can sit around and whine she dreamed up FastFitness.
Kim shared her idea with new found sister Gina Miller. Originally, Kim planned on opening FastFitness by herself but realized she would need some help with the administration side of running a small business. This is where Gina entered the picture. Kim approached Gina for assistance with the business plan required by OEDA (Orleans Economic Development Agency). Gina's extensive business background helped Kim understand the financial side the equation.
Gina became very interested after looking over Kim's rough draft for the FastFitness business plan. After 13 years as a hair dresser Miller was ready for a career change. The physical demands of cosmetology were starting to cause medical problems Gina's doctor suggesed the need to find another career.
After weeks of working together writing the business plan Gina asked her husband Terry's advice. "Terry, what do you think about me going into business with my sister Kim on this FastFitness idea?"
Terry's reply, "You love health and fitness, you need to get out of the hair business, so I say go for it!"
Finally, after much deliberation Gina decided to ask Kim if she would like a partner. Kim's response, "Oh my God I've been wanting to ask you but I didn't think you'd give up doing hair! Of course I want you for a partner!"
The rest is history. FastFitness opened August 4th 2004. By the end of their first year Gina and Kim signed up over 300 new members, gave away 300 tee shirts and had to hire two part time girls.
This success earned FastFitness several recognition awards in the first year of business.
